Subject: Paracetamol ok to take if on toczimumab?

I am currently taking tozimumab as well as methotrexate. Can anyone else who is on it please tell me if it's ok to take paracetamol when on these drugs?

It wouldn't be long term just while I get over a rather nasty cold virus.

Thank you in advance.

(My pharmacist wouldnt tell me. As soon as I mention methotrexate he said I needed to check with my doctor!).

Hi Trevor , no idea why your pharmacist would not give you advice , you should be fine taking paracetamol & I was told to take that or Co-Codamol by my rheumy nurse

Hi Trevor, I take paracetamol while on rituximab and it's fine, in fact the hospital give it before the infusion so I'm confident it will be fine with toczimumab.

Hi Trevor I am also on toc (off mtx for 4 weeks now) I was on tramadol before the toc and my rheumy consultant told me to take two tramadol with two paracetamol because tramadol by itself wont take the pain away, and its true it works better. I have had flare over last week and was told to take the tramadol and paracetamol regularly each day to keep pain at bay.

If you have a nasty virus I would have thought your meds would be stopped for a while, I have to stop while I have any infections or illness. We are all told different though so I would take advice from your medical team about the paracetamol.

Thank you all for advising me that paracetamol is ok to take.

We all seem to get told contrasting things. I find the moment I mention methotrexate, pharmacists tell me to refer to my doctor. Never mind the toc, no one seems to ever know what that is!

When I told my dentist I was on these meds. They took methotrexate very seriously then when I told them about the toc. The nurse replied I don't know how to spell that and the dentist said, oh just type it how it sounds. I did tell them it was stronger than metho even and would they like to see my medical alert card for the spelling but they refused. My teeth are terrible so no doubt will need more dentistry soon but I will make sure they are clear on what it actually is by then.

My rheumy advised me that it is fine to take my toc and metho if ill because I keep up to date with monthly blood tests.

Anyway once again thanks all.
