Hi Sarah I'm on mthxt too and plaq I started humira just over a year ago and what a difference it has made to my life. I still have aches n pains and feel weary but huge difference in daily living. Things like washing my own hair n drying it, things we take for granted I can take for granted again. I didnt have too many symptoms of side effects or anything. i sometimes have to take an antihistamine afterwards for a few days but nohing major. I'm sure some others will comment on enbrel but I have no experience on that.
I hope whichever you end up with helps you xx

I started taking Enbrel November 2012. I felt the benefit the next morning, it really was a ta dar moment. At my first three month assessment I was in remission and I still am. I have taken the odd pain killer here and there, but I have really had no bad pain at all since starting Enbrel, it really has given me my life back. I call it my "Magic Potion" I was so bad before I took it. I've had no side effects whatsoever!

I was also offered Humira and I know what it's like having to decide which one. I was afraid of side effects and decided to try Enbrel because you inject once a week and not fortnightly like you do with Humira. My thinking here was that if I did get side effects I was injecting two weeks worth of Humira and it would take longer to get out of my system, with Enbrel it was only one weeks worth of the drug and would be out of my system quicker.

I was told by my consultant (after I had decided),that if Enbrel works it is the best anti tnf to go on because your body does not make so many antibodies against it. Have also found out that they like you to take it with MTX because MTX also stops the body from making antibodies against the drug.

It is a very hard decision to make I know and I hope that whatever you chose will end up in remission like me!

I think that they will do your DAS score to assess if you meet the criteria. If you do you will be assessed again in about four weeks time and if you meet the criteria then they will put you forward for anti tnf's.

I had to have various blood test done and a chest xray once I met the criteria. At my hospital the funding is automatically there, but at some hospitals they have to apply to the Trust for funding (these are expensive drugs). I don't think I have heard of anyone being refused funding.

NRAS sent my a biological booklet explaining all the different drugs and how they work.

Here are two web pages that you may want to look at about DAS scores.

If you copy and paste them into your browser you should be able to get them up.
