Subject: Blurry vision
Please can anybody advise if they have had any issues with their eyesight through RA? I have posted before but things are no better for my hubby. His eyes are constantly blurry and achy and he has bleeding at the back of both eyes. The specialist cannot find the problem and are putting it down to his RA. He is going to an eye specialist in Manchester on Monday as our local hospital can't resolve the problem. If anybody has had similar experience or know of someone that has please can you tell me how they were treated and if the problem was resolved. Obviously we are both extremely worried that he may go blind. They don't seem to think it's his diabetes causing the problem and he has all the scans, biopsies they can give, they were all clear. Thank you and I hope that you all had a good Christmas regardless of your pain. Kath and Maurice x

Hi Kath, I'm sorry to hear that your husband is still having bother with his eyes. It is good that he is seeing an eye specialist on Monday and hopefully they will know what is causing the problem. My daughter has type 1 diabetes and she had bleeding at the back of her eyes and had to have an operation on them to clear them. I know that RA can affect the eyes but not sure if they would cause problems like you say. Let us know how he gets on with the specialist. I wish him well. xx

Thanks Colin and Rhona for your replies. I was a bit worried (felt ignored) lol But I know that he is not the only person ever to suffer this complaint. Rhona so glad your daughter received the right treatment and she is ok. I'll be on tomorrow night to tell you how it went at the eye hospital in Manchester. Thanks again Guys, is such a worrying time and I feel a bit easier talking to this group. xxx

Hi all, well good and bad news after an horrendous day in the Manchester hospital, things aren't looking too good. His right eye probably need an operation to clear the blood out of the retina, the left eye has optical nerve damage and may not recover, we have no idea what caused this. The traffic and fog travelling there and then the waiting has just about finished us off!! So early to bed and be grateful of small mercies. Night for now been on again soon. ps we have to go back again in 6 weeks time by then they will have decided to operate or not. x

Hi Kath, sorry to hear your husband is having such a rough time of it. Lets just hope now he has seen some one that has diagnosed the situation they will do what is necessary and your husband will make a full recovery. Try not to stress too much it is so hard when a partner or family member is unwell. Have a good nights sleep both of you and take care xx

Thanks Marlene, he is very down cos he can't drive now and I don't drive. We do have family that will help out though so that at least is a blessing. He can now have is Rituximab infusion but it would have been tomorrow, but the eye specialist couldn't get the report back to the Rheumy in time for Wednesday and without that they wouldn't do the infusion in case he needed other treatment! So he will have to wait another 4 weeks I think they only do the infusions every 4 weeks at the Rheumy clinic. Agh well at least he will be painfree for a while. Happy New Year to you all and thanks for your advise and sympathy. xxx

Thanks Marlene, as the Queen would say we have had a orilibus year! Or someat like that. On top of everything my daughters partner dumped her leaving her with two small boys (and he was cheating), which doesn't help matters. So busy trying to comfort her and Maurice! Hope your well. xx

Oh dear Kathleen what a shame about your daughter. I hope your daughter moves on and shows him she can manage well without him. Getting on with her life with her boys is the biggest punishment she could give him. He will be the loser as she has the best thing that happened to her two lovely boys. I hope you remember to take a little time for you. Good luck with it all. We are all here for you. xx
