Subject: Can Lead cause RA

Just a thought when reading about somebody on here having an industrial accident then developed RA. My husband worked for scrap metal company and he was checked for lead poisoning and told to stay away from work by the doctor for two weeks. The company boss refused to pay him except for the SSP and he never did take the time off men! Could this have been a trigger for RA. Not that we can do anything about it now just curious. Thank you.

Hi Kathleen

I believe that autoimmune diseases can start with lead (and / or mercury) poisoning.

Lead in the gut can wipe out protective bacteria that govern the majority of our immune system.

The loss of these beneficial bacteria leave the gut wall exposed to the transition of bacterial and food proteins that over time, eventually leads to autoimmunity.

Hi Kathleen

I used to work in a foundry & managed it until I had to give up working , I developed Occupational Asthma because of chemicals in there we used & few years later developed RA , I think they are both linked but have no way of proving it ,

for some time I was saftey officer in there & although we did not cast Lead , it was in some of the bronzes we cast & dont remember anything like that being mentioned but we had strict rules handling Lead

as for what causes RA no one knows , even though there are loads of claims none are proven .
