Subject: pain relief?

hey, the doctors think i have rheumatoid arthritis and i'm currently waiting for my appointment at the rheumatology department to come round (29th october) however my pains are becoming so bad. I'm on naproxen and co codamol, neither of these are helping a significant deal, my shoulders and hands are the worst and i'm waking up with claw like hands and they aren't going back to normal on their own (so so painful) so im having to force my fingers back to normal, but they always go back to the claws :( any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

hi Bekki, its bad when we first start out with RA , the drugs you will need the consultants have to prescribe them but there is somethings your GP can do , & things you can do your self

your appointment is along several weeks away , so go back to your GP & ask if they could get a earlier appointment & also ask your GP if you could have a steriod injection which will help until you see the consultant

hot & cold will help your hands , its will get them moving , had same with my ankles when I first started with RA back in 1996 , you can get Voltarol Pain-eze Emulgel - 100g from your GP or from Boots , this will help your hands

in the link section above you will find three main charities , two has free helpline if you need them , & they have loads of information about everything you need to know about RA

Hi Colin, thank you so much for your reply! It's so scary as I'm only 22 and to think my body's failing already. I've rang my GP and gonna ask for the early appointment, It's effecting my sleep, I'm unable to work sometimes and I'm always so run down. Thank you again for your advice I'll be going to boots and getting some of the pain-eze gel. :)
