Subject: Enbrel

Hi, just looking for any experiences from anyone who is on or has taken this, it's my next drug to try as been taken off tocilizumab due to my liver results. Frustrating as it was working at the full dose but onwards and hopefully upwards :)

I was on it fort about 9 months. I liked it and it helped (though I was only on a half dose) but had to stop due to rare neurological symptoms. No other real side effects really.

I didn't work for me Eve but I know it has helped loads of people. It is unfortunate that they can't tell yet which drugs will help each person and it is still a case of trial and error. It was easy enough to inject with it though. Good luck with it and hope it works well for you.

Thanks :) I'm keeping everything crossed! The frustrating this is that toci worked on a full dose, just my liver couldn't tolerate it.

Am fine with injections, did them on mtx so all good and easier than going for an infusion once a month.

Hello Eve,
Enbrel worked really well for me for several years. The injections were no problem at all, I had no side effects and was feeling better than I had done for a long time. Sadly (as I found with Remicade before that) it stopped working for me last August 2013 when I started to suffer flare ups but I had been on Enbrel for at least 6 years by then. I'm now self-injecting Abatacept which seems to be having some good effect -slowly.
Possibly the only downside I found with Enbrel -and with all these biologics- is that Methotrexate is also part of the treatment, which from time to time has made me feel slightly sick.
Good luck with it all
Caroline.

I didn't take methotrexate with Enbrel as I can't tolerate it. You can have it on it's own.

hi I have been on Enbrel for 5 weeks now, best med I have had, pain went within 5 days, joints were able to bend more easily and I have finally got my life back on track. I am one of the lucky ones it seems to suit and there is no way I could go back to how I was before. slight injection flares but if you put a cool pack on your leg 10mins before you inject find this stopped them.

Thanks all, sorry it stopped working for your Caroline, hope Abatacept works as well for you.

That sounds great Amanda, great it's really worked for you.

I've been told I'm going on it on its own, which I'm glad about as methotrexate doesn't like me.

Still waiting to hear but had a bit of a setback as got cellulitus so I'm hoping I can get rid of it quick so it doesn't delay anything.

Hi, thanks for that. I'm still waiting for them to phone me to arrange delivering my injections, am getting a bit stressed now as I'm worried in case a referral has been missed or something but I can never get through to the biologic nurse and I got no call back from the nurses' helpline :(

I had a big steroid injection but really want to get started on it as soon as possible.

I'm really glad it's working so well for you :)

Hi Eve. I hope they have delivered your injections now and you are doing well on the enbrel? I loved enbrel, felt great on it (haven't found anything good since) but they made me come off of it after 6 months as I started getting very bad injection site flares (whole top of my leg from thigh to knee). I was happy to put up with it as it made me feel wonderful but I wasn't allowed!

After trying a few others I've Just started on the tocilizumab via infusion a few months ago. Along with methotrexate. It's doing nothing so far. Do you mind me asking how long it took to work with you? (Also why did you have to stop it?). I'm finding infusions a nightmare as have young children to look after. Can't wait to start injections much easier! Xx

Hi Eve, The side effects of these drugs really worry me. My wife and I were having a lot of pain from arthritis for a lot of years and too many pain pills until we discovered Alkaline Antioxidant water after just 3 weeks I had no more pain or pills. It is now been 2 years and never felt better. It is a machine that makes it, make sure you get a good one. Even better if you can find someone with a machine that will share water for a little while so you can try it, we would give you fresh water every couple days but I don't think you are within range. More on my blog, https://alkalinewaterkansas.wordpress.com/
