Hi Chrissy, incapacity benefit has been phased out. I think, though I'm not sure, you can claim for a new benefit, ESA, for a year.

hi chrissy , you can claim ESA https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/overview

he advice you were given by your friend was wrong & should have claimed incapacity benifit , ESA is in two groups , working & support & with severe RA you should get into the support group

this forum may help you & give some guide to what ESA is all about , get some help to fill the forms in & get other information to back up your claim , it may save you from having a medical

I think you should just apply, Chrissy. I'm sure you are entitled for at least a year, regardless of what your husband is earning. I'm not sure what happens after that.

chrissy , you should claim just to get your stamp paid ,

You can apply for ESA if you are employed, self-employed, unemployed or a student on Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment.
