hi Hayley , hope the drugs will help , have they done any blood test for rheumatiod factor , some times it takes time for a consultant to confirm what type of arthritis we have but the treatment is pretty much the same

Hi Hayley, I have Osteo Arthritis and because it is not auto immune I can only have Pain Meds and when the joint damage is too bad surgery. I have had surgery on my elbow and lower back (spine).
The elbow surgery has been 100% but my back surgery not so great as I have other vertebrae and disc damage but I am not looking to have any more surgery if I can avoid it.
I had anti biotics and steroids a while back as my pain was really bad and I have to say I was virtually pain free. I don't think it will happen again as the GP that prescribe it for me is the only one that seems to think it is helpful for OA.
I am pushing to go back to see a Rhumy team but so far not successful but I will just keep badgering them until they give in. I have had OA for 30yrs so I hate it when they try to tell me how it is.
Anyway take care and keep your chin up. This forum is a God send for many of us this is one place you will never be judge or ignored.
Keep posting and let us all know how you are doing. XX

Hi Hayley, sorry you have to joint the arthritis club. If it's any consolation, it took me ages to come to terms with having it and I still feel sorry for myself sometimes, after 5 years. I hope the drugs work for you.

Hayley - You said exactly what I'm feeling! I'm 50, work in a medical lab and have known that I have an elevated RF for about 6 years....but only in last few months was I officially diagnosed with RA. (Pain in ball of left foot for about 3 years -- 2 podiatrists thought it was a Morton's neuroma) Anyway, Plaquenil alone hasn't eased the pain, so Rheumatologist has put me on Sulphasalazine, too. Freaking out that my pee is now fluorescent yellow - how can that be good - what is it doing to my kidneys? I totally get your post - sad about being on drugs for the rest of my life, and sad that pain will sort of be ever-present. So grateful for this message board if I have questions and for those times when I'll need someone to understand what I'm thinking and feeling!

hi hayley and Jude
I was diagnosed 3 years ago and i still wake up each day wondering why i'm aching and sore when i did nothing the day before then i remember i've got arthritis!
it's a hard one to come to terms with as it can have such an adverse effect on your life day to day
I've just started a new part time job but it's more physical than i thought it would be - i only do 171/4 hours a week and already i'm thinking if this is right for me although i enjoy it i'm now thinking long term damage to my joints!
The support on here is great and BSK and Marlene have been my saviours at times
come on anytime you need a moan, cry, support

Hi, this is new to me too. I was diagnosed with RA a few months ago, methotrexate, folic acid, something else for sickness and steroid injection. Was doing fine then suddenly this morning joints feel awful again, can't move arms and wrists without pain and so tired. Is it that indeed another steroid injection? Thanks.
