Subject: Re: New to this
Hi Nichola, methotrexate scared the life out of me too, as does the rest of the stuff they give us, but they are trying to halt the desctruction that RA causes and if they treat it aggressively in beginning apparently it is better. Most of us on here are on or have had mtx and hydrochloroquine which is known as plaquenil (hope I got that right) plus loads of other stuff, but please don't be frightened there is a lot of help and great advice that will be given on here by people far cleverer than me, and you will never be alone. You sound like me you google everything and scare the life out of yourself, I then come on here and somebody will always put my mind at rest. I cant imagine coping with children having RA, mine are grown up, not that they help any, luckily my husband is brilliant helping me when the pains are too much. It took me about 6 weeks before the mtx kicked in but they might give you a steroid injection which will ease things for you. I myself take tramadol for pain now I have come off daily steroids. Like you my pain was first in my ankles, knees but now it is mainly in my wrists and fingers but things can get better so please don't think this is what the rest of your life will be like. Listen to your rheumy, and nurses and read other posts on here, even typing in methotrexate in the search bar I am sure will give you some reassurance. Don't forget you wont be forced to take the meds, but they will help. Take care Nichola, know you are on a good friendly forum and keep checking your posts and I am sure somebody else will come along shortly.
