Subject: New is it osteoarthritis?

Hello I'm new to the site. I'm 33 and broke my ankle 7 years ago after falling down the stairs. It's never been right since i have been lucky enough to see a lovely consultant he did an ankle anthroscopy a few years ago to clear debris but this only helped short term I had steroid injection with minimal results. I had another anthroscopy about 4-5 weeks ago. He had to remove a bone spur and said the lining was very thick he also said the cartilage was very thin but the bone looked healthy. Previously he had said I had impingement and synovitis. I continue to be in agony by the end of most days with some swelling I'm normally unable to weight bear at night and mornings and it frequently keeps me awake. The damp weather is just horrendous. It's really getting me down and impacting hugely on day to day life. I'm a nursery TA and have to work I also love my job anyway although it can be painful! Is it worth me applying for PIP? Thanks for reading

Hi, sorry I cant comment on your condition, but I am sure somebody will come along soon.

About PIP, I have RA, lots of pain and difficulty sometimes moving. Early 2013 after being diagnosed I applied, it was turned down probably because I didn't fill it in as it would have been on a really bad day. I took advice and put in another claim which was October 2013. Didn't hear anything then last week got a phone call from DWP saying somebody was going to come to my house to assess me, very nice lady came but I don't hold out much hope of getting it as she came on a good day!!

She did apologise for the delay which has been 8 months from claim going in, it will be another 1 - 2 months before they make a decision. But don't let my experience put you off you might get dealt with quicker.

Good Luck
Julie

Thanks for the reply I actually heard from consultant today who confirmed it is arthritis and painful impingement 😞 I actually cried when I read it was upsetting to have it finalised and know there isn't much to be done. I don't feel a fusion is the right move for me so doesn't leave many options I'm so fed up of the pain etc I know there are people in must worse situations than me but it's hard. May I ask what happened during the assessment I made my application today just have to wait for the form etc thanks again
