Subject: Terrible legs and knees pain all through the night

Hi I'm new on here and experiencing such terrible lower back, and legs pain all through the night I'm desperate for advice. I'm 71 years old, had osteoarthritis in lower back for the past 15 years but I have never been kept awake by the pain. Even in both thighs and knees. I took co codamol at 10pm but the pain woke me up at 2am. I took another two tablets but my knee pains were the worst yet and had no sleep. I'm so worried this could be cancer now as it's so bad in both legs. Before it was just one and not in my knees. Sorry to come across as a baby but I am so worried. Thanks.

Hi Sarah, Welcome to the forum. I am sorry that you have been in so much pain. I don't know too much about OA as it is RA that I have but I know with the RA the pain can be everywhere. Have you been to the doctor recently about it? I would suggest that you go to the doctor or if it is still as bad today then go to the out of hours surgery and explain to them about the pain and they may give you something a bit stronger for the pain and check you out. xx

Hi Sarah, from one OA sufferer to another this weather probably has you at your worst. This can also be what they call pain radiating from your back. It is possible with the oa you have has a nerve trapped or maybe a disc in your back has slipped.
You can go to A&E if you can't wait until Monday to see your GP. As Rhona has mentioned you probably could do with a better pain killer.

Good luck and take care let us know how you get on.

I doubt you have cancer Sarah, but I do think you need to go to the doctors. The pain in your legs could be coming from somewhere else. I am having a similar problem. I was told I had a torn muscle when in fact I have sciatica. I was given co codamol but they don't work much better than paracetamol. I believe they are only 7% more effective. I would definitely go to the doctors Sarah.
