Subject: discomfort in bed

I know this is going to sound totally stupid but I had a right hip replacement two years ago now I still suffer from various symptoms associated with that but my left hip is beginning to become very uncomfortable at night and I still can't lie on my right side, very, very painful is that normal ? or should it have healed. Also my right knee locks on at night and I have to wake the old man to lift it and move it for me. Due to see the consultant again next month and don't want to sound like a winging pom and I definitely don't want further surgery but it is beginning to get me down.

Hi Margaret, I use a full body pillow which is about 3 metres long in a U shape from House of Fraser, like a pregnancy pillow. It means I can rest whichever joint hurts and helps me get some sleep. It looks like a boat but my hubby can still fit in bed and the cat loves it. Don't worry about moaning, sometimes it's v hard to get comfy!

thanks Lucy I will give it a go, have tried ordinary pillows but they usually end up either on the floor or over my head.

That's good that you will be seeing the consultant next month, Margaret. Make sure you tell him about the pain and hopefully he will be able to reassure you. Don't worry about winging, that's why you are going to see him after all, no point going and pretending everything is well. In the meantime I think you should see your GP and see what pain relief he can offer.
Take care. xx

on strong painkillers but the pain in my hjp is real pain (I mean like something is sticking in to it not achy like hip was and is) like wound pain it's been there since operation two years ago and sometimes gets worse tender to touch thought it was normal but getting fed up because I hate sleeping on my back and because the other hip is now playing up I have to. Trouble is they don't tell you so you feel like an idiot when you ask. Mind you poor old colin I feel a right fraud bless him I do hope he is ok.
