My HLA B27 came back negative, that means nothing in my blood, rheumatoid factor negative and CRP & ESR all normal, what does all this rule out then?? Is the HLA just ruling out AS??

I think having a negative result was a good thing, means you arnt predisposed to certain conditions, illness etc. If u have AS, does a person have to be HLA pos? sorry to ask a basic question, but im confused, unsure about all the tests that mean we have an illness!I Have HLAb27Pos and I have Reiters disease, its made me very ill, 7 ops becoz of it, its left me with Inflamatory arthritis as well as attacking all the soft tissues, cartilage etc. Hope your ok take care Jill

not sure myself about the bloods, i think a percentage of people with these conditions are positive for whatever (RF, HLA etc) and some are negative but doesn't mean you don't have it, i think that's right anyway. The rheumy has to look at the bigger picture i think and diagnose from what he sees or what the patient reports.

Not all people will have the HLA factor in their bloods but a positive def means AS, but a negative doesn't actually rule it out. The low ESR rate just prob means that your condition isn't active at the moment or it may be that it is well under control and no signs of any inflamation. Hope this helps
