Subject: Very confused with Positive anti CPP Test

Hiya All
Recently went to Docs with severe fatigue and feeling rubbish. I have thyroid disease and pernicious anaemia so can feel rubbish - this this was above and beyond! Doc did bloods and this CCP thing came back positive. he explained it about RA and has referred me to hospital. However, I've not had any joint pain or swelling in my fingers and toes. However, I do get a lot of pain in my upper neck (I put this down to not sitting properly!) I stagger about a bit when I've been sat for a while - it feels like I can't straighten up properly. If I lay with my arm above my head I have to use the other arm to move it back. yesterday I developed pain in my hip and am now limping about and that's never happened before. Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill? I'd never even heard of RA before have this blood test thingy. I wouldn't have gone to docs with any of the above symptoms and I wondering if I'm linking random stuff together. I'd be really grateful for any advice or wise words. I don't recognise myself in the google diagnosis.

hi Michelle , about 60% of people with Rheumatiod Arthritis will come back positive , they use another blood test (Rheumatiod Factor) to show for RA but even that dont mean you have RA & can still have RA if come back negitive .

what is going on with your neck & hip is not linked to RA as a general rule it does affect your neck & hips & would not be the first places you would bevelop RA , think being refered will put you mind at peace as to what is going on

Hi Michelle. I too have thyroid disease as well as RA. The stiffness you feel is part of thyroid problems. Have you posted on Thyroid.uk forum, like this one it can really help to talk to others in same position.

I had similar problems before RA but I was on levothyroxine and due to them always changing manufacturer it caused me problems so I was put onto T3 by itself which is brilliant.

Go to your appointment at least you are getting there early and it will put your mind at rest.
Take care
xx

Hi Michelle

Have you been tested for gluten sensitivity - thyroid diseases and pernicious anaemia are both heavily associated with Celiac and absorption of B12 though the gut. I can send you some links that I have read if you wish?

Because of my own experience I do ask this same question a lot on here. My own arthritis improved greatly with diet change and supplements. I don't think I am Celiac but had a positive skin test for wheat.

Also your symptoms sound the same as my arthritis (AS) where I feel like I could not straighten (lumpy frozen sore back and shoulder blades) up and one of my shoulders functions better than the other! My flares in my hip used to make me limp a lot too and tightness / soreness where my neck joined my skull.

CCP are not unheard of in other forms of arthritis but is mostly associated with RA. If you go back to the doctors ask if they did an HLA-B27 test for AS - and anti-TTG (tissue trans glutanimase) for Celiac. (But keep in mind that celiac is only a small percentage of those that are reacting to wheat gluten)

Hope your doc can help you tie things together.
