Subject: Vitamin d deficiency and on abatacept and methotrexate

Hi, I wonder if anybody can advise me, I have ra and I am currently on methotrexate and abatacept, I have just been told from the gp that I have a vitamin d deficiency and need supplements, could anybody tell me if I'm allowed to take supplements while on these medication as I thought I heard before that I was not suppose to take supplements over the counter. Your help would be greatly appreciated . Take care everyone emma xx

Hi Colin thank you for your help can you tell me why you get a deficiency with ra . Yes the abatacept has bought my count down and I am up and walking which is great, I still have fatigue and slight stiffness in my hands but otherwise fingers cross it seems to be doing the trick. How about you how long have you had ra and are you on abatacept . Many thanks emma x

Emma, I take Vit D supplements. I get a prescription from my GP. Apparently, some drugs prevent absorption of Vit D (corticoid steroids) but it is also good for your bones and can help pain.
