Hi Tracey Well my consultant suggested Enbrel as the best but when I started going through the anti tnf procedure for Ra I was told that there is a shortage of Enbrel and it is therefore not being given to patients going on anti tnf for the first time. So perhaps you don't have a decision to make or perhaps things are different in your health region. I am waiting delivery of cimzia.

Hi Denise, My nurse did say there has been a manufacturing problem with one of them but should be sorted next week. Why did he think enbrel was best?

I haven't tried Humira but found Enbrel very good, though I was only on a half dose due to a bit of lung disease. I did get side effects though, so had to come off it but I hear that is quite rare. I've heard good reports of Humira too.

It is difficult to decide when we don't really know what ones will help us. I was on Enbrel for 3 months and unfortunately it didn't help me at all and I am now on rituximab. It is a bit of trial and error to see what will work. I don't mean to sound negative as I know of people that are getting great benefit from Enbrel. I don't know anything about humira. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope it works well for you.

Thanks for your replies, I'm thinking of going for enbrel as it has a shorter half life if I were to take any reactions it would be out my system a lot quicker than humira. I'm really worried about the side effects long I.e the cancers and severe infections.

That's exactly why I was put on it, Tracey. I believe there is now evidence that the risk of cancer is no worse than in the general population. If you get a severe infection, you will be off it in a flash. I hope it works as well for you as it did me.

Thanks bsk, do you take it once or twice a week? I've been given this option too. I'm a nurse n it's going to be hard avoiding people with infections so I'm thinking enbrel be best.

I took it twice a week. Less chance of injection site rash, which I got at first. I also took a half dose due to lung problems.
