Subject: Help how to get my GP to listen.

I have arthritis in my spine and cervical spondylitis in my neck, I was diagnosed by my optician with dry eye syndrome. I have eczema over my knuckles on the insides of my thumbs in my ear and one leg but I think it psoriasis. In the last couple of months I have started with sore painful joints in my fingers and toes to the extent it's painful to walk some days, they swell a little but no redness. I also hurt to touch in most places on my body. I have been to my GP who did a blood test which came back normal. Got the response it's old age!! I am 53. I have been doing research and my symptoms fit with quite a few things, should i go back and explain this or just keep self medicating. I hate confrontation of any kind but am really worried it might be something that needs treating to stop it getting worse. Thanks for reading this.

Hi Meg, sorry you are having so much trouble making your Gp listen to you. Do you have a different Gp in the surgery you could talk to?
Sometimes you just have to be forceful at the end of the day you are the one suffering not them.
OA is not an old persons disease I have had it since my 30s and your GP should not ignore it. It happens to be a very painful life changing form of Arthritis.
From what you are saying in your post you need to be seeing a Rheumy Team to rule out or confirm what is really wrong.
Go back to your GP and tell them you are unhappy and want to see a specialist it is absolutely your right.
Take care and I hope you get sorted soon. XX

Hi Meg, I fully agree with Marlene and think you should ask to see a specialist. I remember going to the doctor years ago with terrible pain in my shoulder and finger and was told it was a wee touch of rheumatics. I had to eventually go back and went to see a different doctor and he referred me to a specialist and my wee touch of rheumatics turned out to be rheumatoid arthritis. Sometimes you have to be firm with them.
Good luck x
