Hello Ruby.
Im new to this forum too and what i have learnt so far is that it seems to effect people in every age bracket.
I have just turned 32 and im seeing my second rheumatologist in 3 weeks time as im wanting a second opinion after being told i most likely have rheumatoid arthritis.
Not something i want to hear when i have two pre schoolers.
Have been prescribed some dmard meds to take but its such powerful stuff i want to be as sure as i can be that it is rheumatoid.
I already know i have wear and tear arthritis in my lower back as i have had facet injections in the past.
Its a tough diagnosis to come to terms with i agree xx

Hi Ruby - I'm 48 this week - have had arthritis (AS) since my late teens.

I'm one of the lucky ones that has managed to slow down my disease. Your doctors should also let you know about gut, bacterial and diet links to arthritis - that are now irrefutable.

Stay positive and experiment - arthritis is not solely a genetic fault it is environment factors interacting with your genes.

Over 90% of the genes in every human are the genes of the bacteria in our gut - these are the biggest component in the engine that drive our immune system.

Hi, I'm 35 and was referred to rhumatology back in 2008 so been suffering for quite a while before that.

I often get the comment about being so young but it's so not the case.

I keep hoping that there will be some kind of local support group set up which will attract some younger members as well as it's so nice to be able to speak to people who know what kind of things you are going through and you don't have to explain all the terminology to.

Hello Ruby, welcome to the forum. You haven't said what type of Arthritis you have. I have had OA since my thirties and am now 63yrs. I have a lot of pain but you do learn to cope and deal with each day. Nothing holds me back I plan ahead and holiday abroad. Have a good social life. Believe me you will learn a different way of life that is just as good as it has always been.
Take care and I hope you get lots of support from this forum.

Hi Ruby, there is a lot you can take for pain. I take Tramadol and Co-Dydramol. There are a lot of anti-inflammatory pain killers also. Go back to your GP and ask for some decent meds no one should be ignored when in pain. Your GP should certainly know how bad Arthritis pain can be. It is hard sometimes to get the right treatment but you really must push for it. Do you have a GP at your surgery that you haven't seen? A fresh face as they say may have a different attitude.
Keep knocking on those doors good luck chin up and take care. XX
