hi Laura

Spondyloarthritis (or spondyloarthropathy) is the name for a family of inflammatory rheumatic diseases that cause arthritis. The most common is ankylosing spondylitis, which affects mainly the spine. Others include:

axial spondyloarthritis, which affects mainly the spine and pelvic joints;
peripheral spondyloarthritis, affecting mostly the arms and legs;
reactive arthritis (formerly known as Reiter's syndrome);
psoriatic arthritis; and
enteropathic arthritis/spondylitis associated with inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease).

there is a blood test called HLA B27 they can do for AS , ask your GP , atleast you will know one way or another

Hi Laura

Seronegative is when the blood test for a particular antibody (against human IGG also known as rheumatoid factor) come back as negative.

They use the blood tests to try and determine what type of arthritis is present. 75+ % of RA are positive.

I have AS (ankylosing Spondylitis) and my back is affected - but AS also affects the hips and usually starts in the lower back (sacro joints) - it can also effect the rib cage and sternum. AS also has links with IBS and Crohns. Strangely though I am hlab27 negative.

My view is that regardless of blood test - nearly all arthritis starts in the gut due to combinations of gut bacteria imbalance, inflammation, infection and / or food reactions.
