Has anyone heard there is a shortage of Embral? I have now got my funding approved for anti TNF but am still waiting .... but consultant recommended Embral but rheumy nurse called to say there is a shortage of Embral so no new patients can have it. Looks like it will be Cimzia but I just wonder if this is all a bit sus cos the drug company pay for the first three months !!!!!

I've just had my screening, hopefully for tocilizumab, but the nurse mentioned Cimzia, Orencia (Abatacept) and Rituximab (Mabthera) as others they offer. No mention of Enbrel, or Humira though I mentioned them first in conversation as they were the main two I had heard of.

That's not good news, Denise. I heard this was happening a few months ago, so don't think it is suspect.

Thanks bsk. I think I was getting a bit annoyed with the rheumy nurse. When I saw her she seemed to want to contradict everything the consultant had told me and really put me on edge and then, of course, the doubts creep in. She said she normally dealt with patients whose condition was stable and when I asked a few questions I don't think she had the answers. Oh well, so much for her doubts I do have the funding now so just waiting.

That's extraordinary, Denise. I would make a complaint if I were you. It's her job to hold your hand through all this stuff and, personally, I wouldn't want a nurse who isn't comfortable dealing with patients whose disease isn't stable. Perhaps a few sharp words from you are in order.? But, yes, there is a shortage apparently.
