hi lol, I take 4 sulpha and I find that I get very hot, in fact sometimes wake up during night soaking wet, not nice feeling in the cold night. I also find that my head sweats terribly, from scalp, especially when I try to do things. If I get shower and wash my hair I have to get dressed before I dry my hair or else it just gets soaking wet again. I am at rheumy tomorrow and I am going to ask her why this is happening. I have been on 4 a day since last summer, along with plaquenil and weekly mtx injection. It doesn't stop me eating though:( mores the pity and it doesn't make me feel tired. Take care and will post if rheumy gives any advice.

Hi lol and Julie, my consultant is going to change my meds one of them is sulfa, and another, have to discuss which when I see my rheumy nurse. I'm hot all the time anyway, sweating, red faced.. god I dont want to be anymore 'hot', its so annoying and embarrasing too. Will be interested to know what your rheumy nurse says Julie.

hi Linda, appointment 3.30 this afternoon, its to see consultant so might get even better information will post after tea when I get back. I have a feeling they are going to suggest anti tnf but to be honest I don't really want to go onto any more drugs that involve injecting myself, I am really beginning to have a 'thing' about doing my injections, it makes me feel sick to think about it even now typing about it. Fingers crossed they will put me back onto mtx tablets. Plus they maybe will have answer about sweating all the time.

I asked my consultant rheumy if sulpha can cause excessive sweating but she said that she couldn't say that taking sulpha or any of the other dmards we take would cause this. She has never had anyone else say about it. So sorry I was of no help to your question. One thing I did manage was to come iron tablets, and come off mtx injections and back onto tablets, I can also reduce my steroids to 5mg a day, but I have to up my sulpha to 6 a day instead of 4. So it will be interesting to see if I get hotter still. Will let you know if things get worse!!

Thanks Julie, it did help. I know what you mean about having a 'thing' about doing injections. I'm like that, but with tablets too. Mtx made me ill so they put me on the injections... still made me ill. Had a break for a couple of weeks.. (was being sick).. and now I dont want to take anything.. like you feel sick thinking about it... shudder!! I will ask my rheumy nurse... when I get to see her lol Still got to decide whether to go for sulpha or Leflunomide Fingers crossed for you... Linda x

I find that steroids tend to make me overheat more than normal and it takes a bit to get me cool again (get out of shops - they are some of the worse - remove extra clothing etc...).

hi Eve, didn't give a thought about steroids causing the problem, will see if it improves for me with reducing dose. Usually each night I take two tramadol, have done for months, but last night I didn't take any and I didn't get the horrible sweating during night, could be coincidence but I will try again tonight.

I can't remember sweats when I was on sulfasalazine, a while back now now! I'm on mtx and about to go on a biologic trial for toci but being kept going on steroid injections. I hate the night sweats! I always link them to steroids with me though.
