Subject: Newly diagnosed and struggling
Hello all. I've recently been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis. I am really struggling with it as I am in constant pain. I have it in my jaw, all my fingers, wrists, thumbs, feet, hip and knees. I've had a steroid injection but it didn't work and I'm seeing my rheumatologist this week to start methotrexate. One of my questions is, a lot has been mentioned about joints being hot to touch when swollen, I get the swelling only, do other sufferers not get the hotness?

hi Rachael , there are several like yourslf on the forum , I have been on Methotrexate for RA since 1998 & now take 25mg a week , there can be problems with the side effects from it but since they increased my folic acid to 5mg six days a week I dont have any side effects pretty much the treatment for all arthritis is the same , the heat tends to go with RA so would not worry to much & just get better

Thank you Colin. I've been in pain since Sept. I've not had one day without. Sometimes it wakes me on a night. Such a life changer. I went to bed one evening ok and woke the next morning unable to move my hands. I've so many questions & think answers are sometimes better from fellow sufferers.

Hi Rachael. I was diagnosed last year with inflammatory arthritis, am on mtx. I cant tell if my joints swell and are definitely not hot to the touch. My rhuemy says they are swollen when she examines me. My hands, wrists, feet, ankles and knees are stiff and achy. You are not alone! Linda x
