Subject: Finger splints
At my last hospital appt (November) the consultant said I should be wearing finger splints. My right hand is quite deformed now especially last three fingers. As I'm still waiting for a hand therapy referral, I was wondering whether there was something I could buy? Does anyone use finger splints to try and keep joints straighter?

Do you mean the ones that stop your fingers from swanning. The physio gave me some plastic ones for each finger. I must admit, I don't like them much. You can get some silver ones online which are quite pretty and decorative.

Thanks Linda. I think that's what I mean. Not sure if it's something I can buy myself as I've no idea what I'm doing, unless someone can talk me through it.

I was given the plastic finger splints for 5 of my fingers, they were horrible, made my fingers swell even more. My rheumy consultant said not to wear them and to be honest my fingers are no worse and at least not swollen now. But be guided by your physio as we are not all the same.

I found them quite irritating. They kept catching on one another.
