Subject: Humira - failed at giving myself injection

I started on humira 2 weeks ago and the community nurse came out to go through it all with me. That was all fine and I injected myself with the auto-injector with no problems.
So today was my 2nd dose and I thought I'd done everything right, but didn't feel 'the burn' as the humira went in like last time. Then when I took the pen away, humria leaked all over me - leaving a wet patch on my trousers as it dribbled down.
The injection site bled so I know the needle pierced the skin at least, but I have no idea how much went in.
Tried calling Healthcare at home and just got answer machine. Called Rheumy nurse and got her answer machine (as it was 6.30pm). So called NHS Direct. The on-call Dr just called me back and said that this was way to specialised for him to advise on and I should call the rheumy on Monday, which is fair enough.
But I feel like such a failure now. Why couldn't I do it?!

Hi Heather, I ruined more injections than I would care to admit! You could ask them to come again or just go to your GP and the nurse there will go through it with you. I went a few times before I got the hang of it.

Thanks bsk. At least I don't feel as though it's just me that's done it!

Hey Heather,
I've done that before, at least you got some in you! I seem to recall doing after i had injected myself more than 50 times... i may have just been in a hurry.
I do seem to remember thinking it was because i had squeezed the skin to make it 'fold' to tightly, you're only supposed to make it plump up a little.
On a side note, and i may be remembering this wrong (i've been on a few of the biologics) i didn't get a 'burn' with humira unless i hadn't let it warm up to room temperature.

Breathe, relax, you'll be sticking it in like a pro in no time.
Good luck,
Chris

Just an update. Got a reply from rheumy nurse and she said to give it another go this eve. I did and it was fine. She thinks it was a pen failure rather than anything I did.
If nothing else, I got my confidence back a bit with it.
Thanks for all the advice!
