Subject: Anyone with similar symptoms!!
I have been having problems for a long time but everything seemed to flair at the same time last year. Took several months to see a consultant who said he would monitor me as he thought something was brewing. Was put on nabumetone and amitriptyline. Helped a little but gives me a foul taste in my mouth and also very dry mouth. Had to wait 4 months and then saw a different consultant 2 weeks ago who is now doing tests for ankylosing spondilitis which my dad had. My twin brother also has an auto immune condition. I have severe pain in my shoulders and upper arms, I have pain circling both wrists with swelling, my ankles have pain circling them and are really swollen right round which makes it painful to walk or wear nice shoes! My fingers if I am not using them stiffen and hurt and one finger cracks continually! I have trouble sleeping. Has anyone else got similar joint problems and how is it being treated?

Hi Liz, Not a lot. Blood taken for RA which was negative. Xray showed osteo arthritis at base of spine. Going for a scan next week of shoulders. Blood taken to test for ankylosing spondilitis. That's about it.

Hi Sandra Initially when we begein to get the symptoms you describe, seems to me that the GPs and the Rhumatologists always wait a few months to see if your symptoms go away, but if they persists, that s when they seem to listen...although your blood test was negative, you may have seronegative R.A......maybe you have Inflamatory arthritis, with tht swelling around your ankles! also the cracking of your fingers seems its Trigger fingers! had mine injected.... there are a lot of medications and you can take to help dammpen down your symptoms, and they do help, they Rhumatologist gives those out, meanwhile ask your GP for decent painkillers, dont be fobbed offf with paracetamol alone...Tramadol is a good one, had a little Morphine in the drug... anyway good luck Love jill x
