Subject: Hip Replacement

I am 54 and scheduled for a hip replacement operation on the 13th November 2013, and would like anybody who has had the op to share their experiences and outcome, as I am still unsure about having it done, even though I am in constant pain.

Hi Liz, firstly can I say sorry you are in such pain. My mother at the age of 83yrs fell and broke her hip hence she needed a hip replacement. She has nothing but praise for her new hip crossed fingers she has not had an ounce of trouble with it. She is pain free and still getting around perfectly well at the age of 87yrs. I know this is a different reason for surgery but I am sure for you the outcome will be just the same.
After surgery mum had fantastic care!!! physio and of course because of her age and my recent back surgery she had six weeks of help at home.
When she tells her story she said of course she was sore after surgery but nothing like the pain she was in. She was up the next day for a little physio and managed it very well. From then on she was back to her old self in no time. She is telling me to tell you to go with it and you will wonder why you were so worried (bless her).

Liz I do hope this helps you and wish you well whatever you decide. Take care and chin up XX

Hi Suz

I had my Left Hip done at age of 33 due to R.A damage and I feel Im getting used to it now its been 15mths since surgery, you have to take things slow at first to be honest I still take it slow and the your walking should improve as well but the surgery does thank God Remove the discomfort and extreme pain from the joint damage.

If you have Joint damage from R.A and need the Hip done then you should get it done as R.A damage to your original joint as they say never seems to heal completely.

All the best

Hi Liz
My 76 year old neighbour had double hip replacement 2 years ago. Initially he refused it 'whats the point at my age says he', however, his daughters constant nagging did the trick and now he does everything he use to except go out on his motorcycle. He was like a new person with the new hip/s. Like Suz says it will be painful intially as most ops are but if it gives better long term ease for you then I'd say go for it.
do let us know if you decide to have op and keep in touch with the 'after'

Wow, just read these posts and thought what brilliant results.
Marlene thats great for your mum. Reading about her will give younger people faith to go ahead with it.
Good luck Liz, I am sure all will be well for you.
It makes me think I should have two new knees now.
Let us know how it goes, November won't be too long.
