Subject: DRY EYE

I've suffered with this for a few years and just read an article about Omega 7 sea buckthorne tablets which apparently help. These are quite expensive and wondered if anyone had tried them and they are as good as they say they are.

hi Gwen ,

Dry Eyes is caused by inflammation under the eyes , pretty common in RA & alot of us suffer with it & some with other complications

some fish oils do help with inflammation like neat cod liver oil but expensive tablets are a waste of money , I use Hypromellose eye drops + Viscotears Dry Eye Treatment Liquid Gel at night time ,

talk to your GP & get it on prescription

Could be Sjogrens syndrome, dry eyes, dry mouth. It causes dryness to the mucus membranes of the body and joint pains. It's a halfway house between RA and Lupus. Your GP can give a prescription for eye drops.

Hi Gwen I too suffer with dry eyes and blepharitis although not RA OA. I did used to take just off the shelf cod liver oil with omegas but more for OA. Have you tried browsing the DRY EYE ZONE they have a forum which you can join, no cost. I have had some help from them. Good luck Carol

Hi Gwen - I have a very close friend who has Sjogrens and suffers greatly with her eyes. For the past year or so she has been taking Omega 7 Buckthorne and I can see a noticeable difference in her eyes. Much clearer. Her poor eyes used to be so red and sore but I don't see this anymore. She still has problems but less so. She is not the type to take things just for the sake of it so imo if she is still taking her supplement, which she is, then she must feel she is getting benefit from it. Hope this helps.....x

I'm another one with RA related dry eyes and mouth (sicca syndrome). I had loads of eyedrops on prescription. I was referred to the eye hospital as my eyes were so dry my vision was blurring. Apparently it's pretty common. They can do tests if Sjogrens is suggested as it can show up in certain antibodies or a lip biopsy.
