Subject: Just got back from my scan, now what do I do?

Hi,
Advice would be helpful, as everyone seems to know there stuff! I just got back from scan and there is good news- it's not rheumatoid, there is no inflammation, bad news is it's osteo, and I'm only 37! Got to wait till I can see DR to discuss further. Anyway what I wanted to ask is- I'm taking naproxen and strong co-codamol is there anything else that works? or out there? I know that exercise is good for it so I walk a lot and try to keep active even though on some days its a real struggle! Is there anything else you can recommend? AND am I going to feel this crap forever?? I currently find trying to work full time almost impossible, and do I need to re-think and work part time so that I have rest days in between?? Just don't know what to do with my achy, burning, extremely painful horrid joints.
Thanks for your time X

Hi Kat, sorry to hear you have OA. I also have OA since my 30s. As long as you have good pain meds for the tough days and a hot water bottle for those sore joints ( my best friend on bad days).
I worked part time for the last 10yrs (retired now) It will all depend on you and the type of work you do.
It is good to exercise but don't push your self. When your pain is bad rest up for a day or so. You will get used to listening to your joints when they are screaming pain rest them. When they are saying i'm ok live life to the full. I have learned to do this the hard way and the girls on here have convinced me to leave things when I don't feel great. It is true tomorrow is another day. Hope this helps somewhat.
Keep your chin up and take care.

Thanks for the advice. I just needed that, because when you tell people you've got OA at 37, and they cannot physically see the pain and discomfort your in. I think some think just a few aches what is she moaning about. I'm extremely house proud too and doing the cleaning is now spilt over 3 days, tough if it doesn't get done today it'll get done tomorrow!(or the next! HA!) Thanks once again for the advice x

Hi Kat, people mostly think OA is for old people well guess what it is NOT!!! It is very painful and can have you feeling very down at times.
I am 62 now and people say well you are at the right age for it and when I say I have had it for nearly 30yrs they look shocked!!!
Kat don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. People just assume you can manage.
Take Care and keep chatting the forum is great for support XX

hi Kat

not 100% sure but dont think you get burning joints with OA , Marlene will know better than myself , it tends to go with RA or something similar

Arthritis care has a free helpline http://arthritiscareforum.org.uk/ & maybe phone them if you have any worries

Hi Kat my joints do feel hot at times I wouldn't say they feel burning hot. When by back is paining me my Gp always says it is burning to the touch. I say hot and others saying burning.
I hope this helps hard to explain.

Colin is right don't rule anything out just yet.

Take care xx
