Subject: sulfasalazine

hi rhona did you get tired on the sulfasalazine i feel wiped out i was suppose to up my dose today to two in the morn and one at night but my gp said not to as i am feeling really sick he said wait until i see the consultant on tues did you find any change when you increased them. how often did you have a blood test when you started them and have they helped with the pain i have had a really bad flare up in my hands and wrists this week. does it give you joint pain lol

Hi lol, it's probably the RA that's making you tired. Once you get the pain under control you shouldn't feel so tired. I think the GP is right in saying not to increase them until you stop feeling so sick. I remember getting bad pains in my stomach when I increased them and did feel sick but was never sure if it was the sulph that caused it or the anti-inflamatory's that I had before them. After being on them for around 6 weeks I did start to feel a bit better. I think I had monthly blood tests for the first 3 months then every 3 months after that. x
