Subject: Retraining in a new career.

I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and also been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my back. I currently work as a supermarket store manager 35 miles from where I live so I have a 70 mile commute as well working upto 70 hours per week. My conditions are making this job more and more difficult and my employers are not really sympathetic. Asked to be moved to a store closer to home as I cannot carry on with the long drives. Scared they will try and demote me and say I am not fit for my job role. I'm interested in changing career to something more suitable but I need to maintain a level of income as I have a mortgage to pay and 2 young children under 5. Any advice on who I could speak to or suggestions on careers would be appreciated.

Hi, I am not surprised you are finding it a struggle with all the hours and travel you are doing. I am not too sure what to suggest. Did you explain to your employers the difficulty that you are having? I have brought your question up to the top again in the hope that someone else may be able to give you some advice. Good Luck.

This sounds very familiar! Im a store manager working long hours, Ive actually got a 3rd party involve and my work have to make reasonable changes under the disability act. I 've put up with the stress and strain for 5 years and can't take it anymore. Don't leave until they make changes first, which they must do.
I have a feeling we are working for the same company!
