Subject: Opportunity to help shape research on placebo effects in osteoarthritis
Have you ever been interested in what doctors call the placebo effect?* *where patients' hopes and beliefs can help them get better even without a medical drug We are a team of researchers working at the University of Southampton and the University of Oxford. We have recently found out that many doctors have used placebos to treat patients. We now want to apply for funding to find new, more effective, ways of using placebo effects to help patients. We would like to invite some members of the public to discuss our ideas with us. We are looking for people who have an interest in placebo effects or who have experience of osteoarthritis. For now, we would like to invite you to a meeting to discuss our research ideas and to capture your thoughts. The meeting will be held on Friday 2nd August, 2pm - 4pm, in Southampton. We can reimburse costs of carers and travel and can pay you for your time. If you are interested in coming to the meeting, please contact Felicity Bishop on 02380 599020 or F.L.Bishop@southampton.ac.uk. When you contact us, please say you are interested in the Placebo Programme Study. Please get in touch by July 31st at the latest. Thank you! (If you can't make this meeting but are still keen to be involved, please get in touch as we can make alternative arrangements.)
