Subject: Newbie here!

Hello all. I have only just come across this forum and just wanted to introduce myself. Hope I'm not posting in the wrong place. I have read through a few threads and will try to read through a lot more when I can. I'm a single mum to my gorgeous 9 year year old,Lewis, who is my world.

I've been suffering aches and pains since I was 12 and the doctors back then told me I had growing pains. 7 years ago I was diagnosed with thyroid disease and fibromyalgia. The last few years the pains in my knees, feet and hands have been getting worse and I find it a struggle to even get out of bed when the pains are really bad. Last week I was sent for X-rays and blood tests as I just know that this is more than fibromyalgia pains. I get my results back on the 6th August. Since having my tests two of my fingers have been excruciating and have obviously become a bit misshapen and swollen. So I'm almost certain that I have rheumatoid arthritis :( my poor nan was crippled with it for years and I've been told that raises my chances of having this awful condition.

Anyway, I hope to get to know some of you in the future and this seems like a great place to come for support and understanding. Thanks for reading!

Hi Emma,

Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will find it as helpful as I have. I hope you don't have RA but if you do then there is a lot more now to help than there would have been in your Nan's day. I was diagnosed with it over 12 years ago and I know it is an awful disease but the treatments are so much better now and stop a lot of the joint damage that people used to have.

Take care x

Thank you so much for your replies. Since I posted this my pains have got so much worse and I have bony lumps which have now appeared on a few of my fingers and my thumbs so I'm now wondering if its osteoarthritis, knowing me it will be both. Anyway thanks again and I will post my results when I get them xx
