Subject: Who has changed from MTX to something else

Afternoon all, I am seeing my consultant in a few days and would ask for advice from anyone who has been on MTX and Sulphasalazine and had a bad reaction to them. I have been off everything for 9 months now but am going to have to go back on to some form of medication as most of the time I have flare ups, some lasting months, and the pain is really getting to me. So has anyone changed from MTX to something else and had no bad reaction and what did you change too? I know people tolerate things differently, but I just don't know what my options are. Would really appreciate some advice. Thank you.

Hi Sandie, I had been taking sulfasalazine for 12 months and then methotrexate was added. I was dreadfully ill after only taking for two weeks. I stopped it and then the consultant said to try it again. Well I felt so ill with toxicity that I had to stop it again. I have had a three month break and just taking sulfasalazine. I have in my first week of taking another DMARD called Leflunomide. So far so good, it seems to be ok with my sulfasalazine. We are all different and some people get on well with both but I know it didn't work out for me.

Hi Gillian, thanks for your help. I have a lot of thinking to do because I don't want to be bullied into trying them again. Fingers crossed. Hope you are having a good day.
