Subject: Specialists in Brighton/Hove UK?!

Hello All,

I am a very newbie here, but hoping for some advice if possible!

I currently live in Sydney Australia, but moving to Brighton in the UK in August. I have suffered from Psoriatic Arthritis for the past 8 years, and currently on 30mg of Methatrexate (supplemented with Salazopyron) a week. My arthritis is somewhat managed at the moment (my CRP levels are lowest they have been in those 8 years ÁV from a high of 81 to 10), and I have the PSA in my jaw, neck, right shoulder, left knee (had one synovectomy on this) and ankles.

I saw my Rheumatologist yesterday, and unfortunately he is not aware of any Specialists in the Brighton area. The closest he knew was in Southampton!

Therefore, I would be forever grateful if someone were able to give me suggestion Specialists that I could contact upon my arrival to the UK.

Appreciate any assistance and thank you for your time

I don't know about specialists in Brighton but when you register with a GP they will refer you to one. Unless you want to go privately that is. Why not google - I think the hospital is Brighton and Sussex University Hosp.

There are 3 hospitals in the Brighton area that have rheumatology clinics:
Hove Polyclinic
Princess Royal Hospital
Royal Sussex County Hospital
I don't live in that area so can't advise on a particular consultant, I'm afraid. But you are now able to choose which hospital you can go to (until fairly recently you used to have to go to the nearest one to where you lived).
Sorry I can't help more and good luck with the move!

Hi bsk/Heather

Thank you so much for your kind advice. I think your systems are a bit different to ours (as our specialists tend to have offices/practices outside of clinics/Hospitals). My specialist has written a letter for my future Doctor/Specialist for my medication and needs and it's probably the one thing I am stressing about most with the move!

I am on a spouse visa (as my Hubby is a Brit) and have been told I can apply to NHS once I arrive - so that will be a blessing!

Thank you for your kind advice again - much appreciated! Am very much looking forward to living in the UK, as believe it or not - the climate there is much better for my PSA than Australia!!

We visit Brighton quite a lot for short breaks. We love the place. Although it's quite hilly I always feel fantastic for a week or two when I return. Not sure if it's the air or what.

Yes - I can't wait to move there :) I've lived in Australia all my life (Melbourne and now Sydney) and love the climate in the UK. Also love the fact that I will be close to the sea so can do some more walking! Summer in Sydney is usually quite hot (anything from high 20's to 40's) - so welcome the change - and think too so will my PSA!!! :)
