Subject: Help with pain.

Hi all, I haven't been on this forum for along time as I have been a lot better until about 6weeks ago. The pain seems to be worse than ever before.
Ive been taking arcoxia, 15/500 coco and also had a steroid jab last week.
The arcoxia seems to help with the morning stiffness but im still in alot of pain throughout the day. I am not currently taking any meds for the arthritis.

Ive had bad reactions to methotrexate and sulfasalazine and have an appointment in a few weeks time to discuss trying biologics.

Im not getting much success with my gp. She told me the pain in my hands has nothing to do with my psoriatic arthritis. When I told my rheumatologist this she was shocked.

Any advice on what I could do for the pain?
I have a full spine mri soon and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they are like, how long it takes ect.

Any advice would be great. Thanks Mike.

Hi Mike, sorry you are in a lot of pain.
Don't worry about the MRI scan it is painless. You lay on a table and you are slid into a tunnel. It is a little noisy clinking clunking and a knocking sound. You should be given ear phones to wear. They can speak to you if necessary and they can hear you if you need them. The table moves slightly and it takes around 20mins or so. The results should be with who ever ordered scan within 7-14 days. It is fantastic what it shows up much better than an x-ray. I had x-rays and they showed nothing wrong with my spine MRI Scan showed a totally different scenario.
Good luck lets us know how you get on.

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear you are in pain. Doctors don't seem to know much about P/A and R/A and it is good that you are seeing the rheumatologist soon. The biologic drugs can make such a difference so i hope you get onto one soon.

I don't know if you can take anti-inflammatorys for the pain as they usually help.

I hope your scan goes well.

Hi Mike, I wouldn't like to say what they would do for you as all cases are different. I had surgery for slipped disc and had some work done on my OA. It would depend on what they find and what your consultant thinks is best for you.

Sorry Mike I forgot to say OGD test. You should be sedated and will not care very much about it. If you are worried make sure you have the sedation. My husband had the procedure without sedation and he quickly forgot about it all.
My brother had sedation and he also forgot about it all. Good luck with it all.

Hi Mike, sorry I missed your original post but glad you've got some tramadol. I hope you get onto some biologics as they help me a lot even though I have problems with chest infections on them. I'm more more mobile than I was. Good luck with the scan. A tip, ask for something to cover your eyes if you get claustrophobic - an eye mask is good :)

Hi Mike,
It's a shame us arthritic patients have to go from one painkilling tablet to another, and one scan to another and one specialist to another in an attempt to subdue our painful arthritic diseases. Luckily, some people can stomach anti-inflammatories others cannot. In that case some doctors give up on that patient and so prescribe physiotherapy, which in my experience doesn't help for diseased bones, only 'loosens' them for a short time.

I have suffered arthritis for nearly fifty years, have tried all physio, heat-wave treatments, manipulation, etc. etc. and for the past ten years I settled, with my own guidance and my Doc' for strong pain-killing medication. I'm now content with life and have achieved a lot that I missed and I'm not addicted to the drugs either, only dependent and the dependency covers a life I now enjoy.

All the best................Ron.

Hi Wayne/Ron ??

It is great to hear that you are at long last at ease with your condition. I hope you continue to enjoy life to the full. I guess you have OA like myself if you control the arthritis with pain meds only. I like yourself control my day to day living with pain meds not the best but it is the only way I get through the day. Like you I try not to let it spoil anything I want to do.

Sorry about the name thing not sure which you like to use. Take care

Hi - regarding pain relief

I would like to share this as I think this article represents best "money no object" treatment that we all deserve to get - but with expertise and money being thin on the ground then self help is only hope -

If only we all had as much analysis with our treatment as this 53 year old lady with RA - very interesting

Gliadin (gluten) causes intestinal permeability - even in non celiacs -

personaly dont take any painkillers , dont realy find they work & after sometime you just get used to living with pain , got patches that worked for couple of days , drive my docs mad but still prefer to think of pain as your friend & anyway with loads of joints on the go , you can feel all of them at the same time

know its not for everyone but after 18 years of severe RA got used to living with my friend
