Can it really be spreading to my ankle too? I have oa in both big toes and both wrists. The same pain is starting in my ankle. I thought oa didn't spread!!

So did i but think i have the same issues as yourself. Wrist pain spreading into thumbs. Do you have pain under control and movement in wrists? It's so draining having constant pain and worrying!

Pain is definitely not under control! I've just been told by the GP that I've tried all the painkillers they can offer, and there's no point in taking the ones I'm on, anymore as they're not working! I wear wrist splints a lot which helps. Some painkillers work for some people o you have to try them all in the hope you find one that works!

I was told by a G.P that once arthritis attacks one joint, when you feel a new constant pain chances are it will attack other joints. I have tried getting my (new) G.P to send me to a pain clinic, but not getting anywhere yet with that. It would seem a G.P cannot intervene on a pain specialist diagnosis, only write out the repeat prescripts. If your G.P can do no more for you, now would be a good point to see a pain specialist at your local hospital. I wish you well, and hopefully to get some ease from your constant pain.

As an NHS podiatrist I see a lot of foot, ankle, knee and hip O/A. I can't stress enough how important supportive, stable footwear is. Get referred to a podiatrist who can assess you for insoles and advise on suitable footwear. Good luck!

Hi Rowantree, Did you try getting topical medicine prescribed or a patch? Did that help at all?
