Subject: Any people on here with lupus can you tell me..

Hi all,
Hope everyone is ok.
I was at the Dentist today and he noticed something on the roof of my mouth which I didn't know I had as there was no pain.

He took a picture of the strange infection in my mouth and is sending it to a specialist he say's he does not know what it is as he has never seen anything like this before,
I have googled infection's in the roof of the mouth and the only thing I can find is a reference to lupus and as I have pshoriatic arthritis I was wondering if the two can be linked.
Has anyone on here with lupus,
Have another form of arthritis?
Have had any problem's with the roof of the mouth?
If so I would be grateful if you could answer any of my question's take care everyone Deborah

I have Lupus plus a crossover with RA. Lupus like RA and PA causes arthritis. I've never heard of anyone with Lupus having an infection like the one you describe.

Many people with Lupus and RA come to that, do also have sjogren's syndrome which causes a dry mouth and makes them susceptible to infections and dental problems. Sorry if i'm not much help.

Hi Linda,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I had an idea that you can have lupus with other arthritis's as it is an anti-inflamatory condition too so make's perfect sense I suppose.
I hope you don't mind me asking you how does your lupus affect you?
Also noticed on google that if you are on drug's to suppress the immune system this can affect the roof of the mouth.
I have to go and see a specialist soon so hopefully will soon find out what it is, I hope I don't have to wait ages to see one.
You are alway's that scared of something strange as you don't what it could,be but finger's crossed it's only to do with the drug's I am on.
The funny thing is the Dentist said that he was not worried about it but I was thinking if he does not know what it is and has never seen anything like it before how can he not be worried about it, think he just said that to stop me from worrying.
Thank's again Linda take care Deborah.

Lupus affects my joints and skin Deborah. As I was older when it came on, it is milder. So is the RA.

I do know other people with Lupus as I belong to a local group and they've usually got other things as well like Fibromyalgia and MS.

It could very well be the drugs that are causing the infection or making it linger. I had an infection in my wrist that lasted for ages.

Hope you get on alright when you see the specialist, It will put your mind at rest. Take care.

Hi Linda,
Thank you for answering my question's.
Hope you are well yourself at the moment.
I have a funny feeling it is lupus as I have at least four of the syptom's of the disease.
Butterfly rash on face,
Sensitivity to sunlight,
Fever's I get those quite a lot and the problem with the roof of my mouth.
As for the pain's in the joint's have those anyway with my pa so not sure.
There is alway's something to annoy you but will let you know when I find out.

Hi Linda

I just wondered if you had ever heard of research and practice over 20 years ago from a doctor in Sydney, Australia - treating lupus and ra.

He used high doses of vitamins / minerals as well as diet.

Yes Sean I have. Apparently he had a lot of success. I think i'm right in saying he put all his patients on a gluten free diet.
