Subject: I'm 25 and have certain symptoms but I don't know if it is serious enough for a doctor to treat me

Hello everyone!
I'm 25 and really concerned. My mother was diagnosed with RA, she was very poorly before, deformed joints in her hand, nodules everywhere etc. I have noticed certain symptoms myself and I am really worried that I will have to go through what she had to go through. I am also worried that my symptoms aren't severe enough to be taken seriously. I have one single nodule in one of my fingers, it grew very quickly, have psoriasis, swollen sausage like fingers from time to time and pain in different joints of my hands and elbows. This pain hasn't been bad enough to take a painkiller, it goes away after a few seconds but they got a lot more frequent lately. My question would be that when should I go and see a doctor? Are my symptoms serious enough to be sent for a blood test? If they diagnose it very early can I prevent it from getting worse and keeping it how it is right now? I am not English but I have been working and living here for years now and have experienced difficulties because of my nationality even at official places. I am also worried that this fact and that my symptoms are not extreme will leave me untreated for years and end up in severe pain and with deformed joints. I would really appreciate any help, my worry keeps me up half the night sometimes. Thank you, Erika

I forgot to add that I also have stiffness sometimes in the morning in my lower back. I have never thought anything of it. I am overweight and been on a diet and I thought it was because I have been working out a lot more than I used to. My eyesight is getting worse too. Can it be another symptom or am I just being paranoid? Thank you, Erika

hi Erika , I would go to your GP , they can give you a anti-inflammatory to help with the swelling & pain , there is arthritis that goes with psoriasis & a very good reason to talk to your GP

threatment of RA & other arthritis is so much better than 10 years ago & catching it early can save a lot of problems

Thank you for your quick reply :) I'm just afraid of the pain to be honest. I don't know if they might diagnose me can I keep it at the stage where it is now or will it always get worse and worse for the rest of my life? I'm only 25 and future terrifies. At least I know now that I'm not over-reacting, I will go and see my GP. Thank you very much again.

hi Erika, it's worth asking your gp for a blood test to look for inflammation. People don't get deformed joints like they used to due to the meds as Colin says. You are always better off getting an early diagnosis if you do have arthritis. And if you don't, it will be a weight off your mind.

Please go and see your GP they will get you in the right direction, better to get these things early and it may be nothing and will also put your mind at rest as stress will not help. Good luck x
