Subject: Had my first rheumy app today!!
Hi everyone, well had my first rheumy app today. After 2 hours of bloods and x-rays and examinations the doc said I was symptomatic to RA. X-rays seemed ok but have been booked in for a mri and ultra sound to see If that can confirm a diagnosis. Just got to wait for the bloods to come back and scans now. Does anyone know what they will do for me if nothing shows in the other scans? I have heard that some with some people it doesn't show up in scans until later on. Hope everyone is ok :)

hi dianne , they take x-rays of your hands etc for referance to compare in future , never had mri or any scan for RA , the Doctors can tell a lot by just checking your joints , the bloods they will get back in a few days but if they think its RA they will sort a Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) like Methotrexate which should help stop any joint damage long term

Wow they really seem to be taking care and time with you that is so great never had scans or MRI they seem to be trying to get to the bottom of what's going on with you
They will look at every thing to make a diagnosis and listen to what you have to say and hopefully get you on the right track
When is your next appointment ? Or will they ring you with results
I am very interested because it was my g p that did all the bloods examination and basically diagnosed ra for me so when I went for my first rheumy appointment he just explained what meds he was prescribing side effects etc
Any way I am rambling again lol
So glad your getting some where

Hi Dianne, glad to hear ur getting somewhere. Ur care seems to be very thorough which is never a bad thing. My RA was diagnosed through bloods done by orthopaedic surgeon as initially thought it was disc problems in back. How i wish it was jus back pain now. My first visit tomorow to rheumy. How are you feeling? Hope everybody else doing good. Xxx

Hi all yes I had an x-ray of my feet, hands, chest, pelvis and back and 10 little tubes filled with blood sent off! Very thorough I would say. My doctor sent bloods off, my ra factor was negative but some auto immune test was positive and my vitamin d test was a little low, he just said it would be best to refer me to a specialist. So the rheumy doc has booked me in for a lumber spine mri scan and mri scan of hands and an ultra sound. Have got to wait for an appointment in the post. All he did say was that I was symptomatic to RA, not sure what he meant by it really. My x-rays looked ok to him though as he looked at them the same day, he did say he thought some sort of inflammation was going on though. The bloods he sent off he just said he wanted to elaborate on what the doc had done but there was quite a few being sent off so not sure what they are for. Has anyone with RA had there x-rays come back ok? I wander why i'm having an mri scan on my spine then? Maybe just a full m.o.t! Tara it seems they are looking after me anyway so hopefully will get to the bottom of what is causing my pain, maybe its not arthritis?!? Patsy i'm feeling ok was very drained yesterday and sore but I've woke up feeling positive that I will get the help I need. Hope your appointment goes well tomoz hun,let us know how u get on thanks for all your replies. will keep posting x

hi dianne , just seems they are doing a total check up on you , the x-rays for RA is standard even if there is nothing showing but the rest they are trying to rule out anything else the treatment is mostly the same if its a inflammatory arthritis , there is several around here that are sero negitive for RA and even showing RF in your bloods dont mean you got RA , the bloods will show inflammatory markers CRP & ESR sounds like your doctors are very good so hope you be feeling better soon

Hi Colin, thanks for the reply. Yeah I think they are just checking everything over with me, which I suppose is a really good thing. Nothing seems to be under looked with them. Hopefully will get my app soon and some medication that will help the pain. May I ask what type of arthritis do you have?

hi diane nothing showed up in my bloods or xrays ive had a mri scan for lumber /scacral asnd pelvis awaiting results. My diagnosis was sero neg imflammatory arthritis imon metharexate folic acid acroxcia co codomols etc i had blood tests every two weeks but now they are monthly ..i hope this helps good luck with getting a result took me 2 years to get a proper name for what is wrong with me lol

hi kaz it seems to take a while for people to get diagnosed. How did you get diagnosed with sero negative ra? I know i'm in for a long wait, if nothing shows in my bloods will they still keep me on as a patient do u think? Its driving me crazy, obviously I don't want arthritis but I just want to be able to know whats wrong with me and not keep thinking im going mad lol

well they kept me on i was just givin acorxica and pain killers for a while then i got worse i had ink dye put into me veins and had a fullbody bone scan after that everytime a joint got swollen id take apiture on my phoneand showed the rhuemy them when i went... my bloods have never shown ra factor at all ... keep with it it will get sorted good luck

Hi Dianne, all my xrays and scans come back negative even when I've got obviously swollen joints. Try not to worry too much about results. Diagnosis is made on examination and your pain levels as much as anything else.

Thanks for the replies, sure I'm in the right direction anyway. The last week I've been struggling swallowing, does anyone else suffer with this? Just wandered as the rheumy doc asked if I did to. Thanks
