Subject: hip arthritis

hello all, after 3 years of mis-diagnosis i have at last been told i have arthritis in right hip made worse by an incident in work.

Had an injection into hip joint on monday, it was so nice to be pain free for a whole day.....but it wore off next day.

Can anyone please tell me if this steroid injection does work and if so how long will i need to wait to get some pain relief.....

many thanks suszannah

Also meant to mention, i have major problems with medication (allergies) so can only take paracetamol (which does nothing) :)

Consultant says that if the steroids do not work he will either do re-surfacing or replacement, that gives the problem of medication again.

I am 55 and can't live like this much longer, i can walk well just have major problems getting up from sitting or in and out of car, i can't lie down or stand up all day, i just want a life, everyone i have spoken to with arthritis does not get these problems, i am so confused... please any advice appreciated

Sorry to hear this Suszannah, my son is 11 years old and has been suffering from arthritis for a year now, he was only diagnosed about 3weeks ago though and since then has been on methotrexate 10mg, folic acid 5mg and naproxen tablets. He is still in absolute agony and is unable to move his left hip joint. He needs crutches, a wheelchair an lots of aids in the home to help him such as toilet frame etc.

Today he starts on methoprednisolone by IV drip for 3 days in a row and tomorrow he will start on injections of interecept or whatever it's called. It would be nice to keep in touch and compare notes as you seem to have a similar problem.

He is in agony if he gets up or down or if he is lying or sitting in certain positions or seats, can't get in or out of the car due to the agony, it's horrific. Take care wendy

Hi wendy and thank you for the reply, i am so sorry your son has this, he is too young to suffer so much pain.

The injection i had was kenalog and i was told if it works i should see a result in a few days.....so far nothing and 4 days since injection which was not that pleasant.

Still trying to work, but i dont know how much longer for :(

Hi Suszannah

LOL feel like I know u well now, anyway, was just reading your message of 19th feb, theres a part in there that you say that" most people you have spoken to you that have arthritis dont feel like you,", they Must be the lucky ones, because most people i know that have this disease is in agony, including me, Its hard for you at mo because you work, I had to give up my job in 2003, was devestated I had to, felt like a failure, but since then so much more has happened to me, that I now Know I cant return to work for a while yet, People that have the disease chronically really do suffer and it does affect their lives terrrible, total re adjustment I have had to do, only yesterday I had to take my(dont larf LOL ) my Mobile scooter so that so that I could keep up with my three boys as they rode their bikes in the park, that scooter is so much fun, especially going downhills but the best part is, No pain, whilst enjoying the sun in the park with my boys, Dont get me wrong, I dont use that daily, only if its going to be a long walk!im only young and I dont care that I use it, It is a positive thing for me.( u should try one) anyway your not alone and I will keep you updated on my friend thats having a Hip replacement on weds this week....so chin up, and Keep making me Larf!!

Love Jill x

lol hi jill, when i said other people i have spoken don't have the same symptoms as me i meant, they ache constantly but not when getting up from sitting or in and out of car like me......so lol i figured i did not have arthritis, but doc says otherwise...once i am up can walk well with just an ache not pain......

So upshot is i lie down or stand up for the rest of my life lol and avoid getting up :)
