Subject: Folic acid

Hiya, i have just been prescribed 10mg methotrexate per week, took my first lot last Mon!

However, i havent yet been advised to take folic acid with it!

It is neccessary? If so i am going to mention it at my next rdv!

Yes it is important to take folic acid Vicky. I take 5mg 3 days after the mtx, some people take them more often as they can also help with side effects. Phone your doctor or rheumatologist for a precription as they should have precribed them.

hi Vicky , who gave you the prescription ? , cant believe anyone would give you that without folic acid , go back to them or call your rheumy nurse or in the link section above there is arthritis care & National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society & both got free helplines

MTX depletes the body of folic acid and the frequency of side-effects can be reduced by taking supplements of folic acid.
