Subject: Bent finger
Currently in process of being diagnosed with RA. came on suddenly and agressively 2 months ago! its calmed down now, but still affecting my fingers and wrists most eves. My ring finger has been bent now for 4 days! I cant straighten it. My next rdv with rheumatologist is not for 1 week. I am worried about permanent damage, is it likely to stay like that forever! I am only taking anti inflamms at mo, usually the inflammation eases up in the morning, but not with this finger! My blood tests have all come back negative, along with xrays, scans etc. so only had steroids and anti inflams so far, which dont do much. I read that quite a percentage of people in the first year can test negative for RA in their blood?

Hi Victoria about 70% of people with RA have RF in thier blood & being Seronegative RA is not that uncommon but it takes bit long to get diagnose your finger will be ok , you can get gel from your GP like ketoprofen which will help & maybe just soak in hot water & it will start moving just like hydrotherapy they need to get you on some Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) , the link section at the top of this page has links to the three main arthritis charities & some has free help line if you need it
