Subject: Identiying Arthritis.

Hi all, new person here. I wondered if you could help with a problem i have or more specifically with my doctor. Some time ago my wife got cancer and has major issues with the GP and the time to diagnose. Then my blood clot was missed, i was mis diagnosed then only when a nurse sent me for an xray was this couse of action to lead to a correct disgnosis. Now i get pain in the middle finger joints on both hands. The joints are swollen on the right and take an hour of stretching to ease up. Bottom of my feet too which is weird.Doc did some blood tests, all clear for everything and says its RSI not arthritis. No being sent for phsio, no use of a rhumatoloogist, nothing. So having such little faith in him i was wondering, whats the correct procedure to getting a full and correct diagnosis? What did you guys do? Blood tests alone and sent on my way with Ibuprofen? Lets hope hes correct but i have little faith after the last two encounters with him. Luckily im alive no thanks to him.

Hi Mick, frankly, I would change doctors. I did just before I was diagnosed with RA and best thing I've ever done. Then ask for a referral to a rheumatologist.

Thanks guys. My wife has arthritis in her feet knees and a few other places and she gave the same advice, change docs. I can understand, no ones perfect but the last miss could and probably should have been curtains for me. Luckily im still around. I think ill give it a few weeks then try to see the other doc. I justdont want to appear to be a pest.

Mick, you've got every right to see the doctor as often as you need to. I saw mine 3 times in the last week. When I apologised she just laughed and said 'we're not counting so don't add that to your worries.'

Hi Mick, if you don't feel comfortable about seeing your GP I certainly would look for another. You should never feel that you are a pest, we all deserve a first class DR no matter what. If I need to see a GP then I go with out hesitation. Bsk is right whos counting and if they are then they shouldn't be.
Go back and see someone lay your cards on the table let them know all you are concerned about and don't take no for an answer. You take care and best wishes to your wife.
