Subject: Diagnosed with RA but most pain is from muscles

I have been diagnosed with R-Arthritis by GP in my left knee and Hip and have been prescribed Diclofenic. I do have clicking from the knee when climbing stairs but do not seem to get a the pain from the knee. I do though get extreme pain from the muscles either side of the joint.
Is this normal?

Hi Stephen, It would normally be a rheumatologist that would diagnose you with rheumatoid arthritis. Have you had blood tests taken? It doesn't sound like r/a to me but then again i don't know your details. Could it be Osteo arthritis that he said? If you had r/a then you would normally be prescribed disease modifying drugs from a rheumatologist.

Best wishes.

hi Stephen

agree with Rhona , try to get a referal to a Rheumatologist , GP generaly dont know very much about RA .

I would ask for the referal because of your muscle pain as well , your GP could give you a gel like ketoprofen gel which will help

Hi Stephen, I am with Rhona as an OA sufferer you sound more like Osteo rather than RA. How did your gp come to his diagnoses? Even with OA I went through all the test for RA as well so every one was sure I had oa and no other arthritis factor.
Have you tried putting your knee up with a hot water bottle I find this helpful. The clicking you hear sounds like bone on bone. I am not a Dr so this is only my opinion.
The pain from OA can be awful so take care not to overdo things.
I hope the replies help and I would have another chat with your Dr to make sure that your diagnoses is correct.
Take Care
