Does any one know anything about viral arthritis?
Its currently 6 weeks since i started with symptoms of RA out of nowhere. Constant pain for 6 wks. Had steroids and anti in flams neither of which worked. Saw my rheumatogist today for the second time. She said my blood tests are ok. And its still too early to put me on meds for RA. She has now put me on both steroids and anti inflams together, and sending me for a scan.
She said sometimes it can be a virus and last for 3 months and the disappear!

Hi Victoria, they thought I had this when I first got ill and it took six months for rheumy to decide it wasn't viral. He was taking a cautious approach with the drugs but was eventually diagnosed with RA. Look up Reactive Arthritis on Arthritis Research UK or Arthritis Care, I believe it is the same thing and there is more info there.

Viral arthritis is swelling and inflammation in the joints due to viral infection. Basically it affects to children. The treatment is same as the doctor prescribed you. It won't last for longer period. If it persists than consult a orthopedist.

Hi Henry, adults can get it too, though you are right, it is different to reactive arthritis and goes more quickly, which is good news!
best of luck

I apparently have an arthritis which was triggered by the parvo virus back in April. My rheumatologist is treating me for RA but says he is still hopeful that it will settle! I am taking a NSAID called Arcoxia plus prednisolone and a DMARD called Planquenil. I am currently coming down of steroids to see what has happened, fingers crossed its gone, unfortunately I'm unconvinced this can still be viral!
Best wishes.

Just wondering how you're getting on Victoria?
It's been a year for me next month, I've had a month or so of being pain free whilst reducing the steroids - until last week. I'm down to 2mg of steroids but have just started experiencing the same pain as before; stiffness and pain in toe joints, knees, finger joints & wrists. Finding it difficult to get to sleep, as I have to keep moving so I don't cease up. I was so hopeful that this would go as the Rheumy doc suggested, but how can it be a year on. Did it take others of you with RA a long time to get a diagnosis? And was anyone else firstly given a diagnosis of viral? Nicola

Hi Jo, sorry, did it take you 18 months to get a viral arthritis diagnosis or were you then diagnosed with another Arthritis? I'm just really suffering again & it's a year next month. Can it really still be viral?

HI Nicola I was initially diagnosed with viral arthritis and told it would be gone in three weeks. time but it never left I eventually paid to see a consultant privately and he diagnosed me with RA and then trfed me to his NHS BOOKS and I have dealt with him until this year as he has retired and I now have a different consultant

Hi Jo thanks for the info, I initially saw my consultant privately before seeing him on the nhs too. Are you seronegative? Hope you don't mind me asking all these questions. Obviously I don't want the diagnosis of RA but doubtful that the virus I had can trigger an arthritis that lasts this long. Thank you.
