Subject: Opinions please....RA or not?

I know you must get these posts all the time so I am sorry in advance.

I went to my GP yesterday and told her that I have painful wrists. After a few questions she said she wanted to do some bloods. I also told her about a couple of other things that I thought she had dismissed but it's only when I got home and started thinking about it that I think she has grouped all these things together.

So my symptoms are sore wrists but only when I do things like close the boot, open a chest freezer, wring a facecloth out or lift heavy things with one hand. I also get very achey arms and legs and yesterday my legs were so sore that I had pains going down from my hips, pains in my knees and ankles too. The ache in my arms feels like the pain I had once after a flu vaccine. I have had a "hump" in my neck for a while now at C7 and this can be excruciating. During the night and in the morning if I get out of bed my feet hurt when I stand on them. I am very stiff in the mornings but it does ease after a while. My feet hurt at night with the weight of the duvet on them.

NOW my problem is that I have multiple sclerosis and for a long time I put the aches down to this. It was only when my MS nurse said that aches are not usually a problem with MS that I wondered was it something else.

I DO NOT have swelling/heat or redness on my joints and the pain is not there all of the time. My legs were bad all day yesterday but a little better now. I do suffer with weakness in my legs from the MS and other sensory symptoms but never had this pain before.

So my question is......does this sound like RA at all or should I just put it to the back of my mind?

Thanks in advance, Lindsay

Tricky one Lindsay! It's always difficult if you've got other things going on as well.

My advice to you is wait to see what the bloods results are and keep a diary of your symptoms i.e. how long the morning stiffness lasts, when you get pain etc. and talk to your gp about a referral to a rheumatologist. There are lots of kinds of arthritis so may not be what you think and it can take a while to diagnose - so try and be patient. Not easy I know. I hope it isn't RA as you seem to have enough to contend with but we are here to support you if it turns out to be the case. Let us know.
