Subject: Not feeling too good

I was told i have Rheumatoid Arthritis back in April and put on Methotrexate, Omeprazole, Alenoronic acid, Folic acid and Cocodamol. I am ill all the time, 2 days of my week i am throwing up and the rest of the time i feel like crap. The consultant has changed the Methotrexate to an injection but i have seen no change in how i feel. Is this normal?

hi jane

not sure about Alenoronic acid , it could be the problem & not methotrexate (Mtx)

the other drugs are pretty standard for RA & ones I take & dont have any problem with but some people dont get on with MTX , the injections are better if you can stand them + taking 5mg folic acid 6 days a week

would try leaving out one of Mtx or Alenoronic acid to see whats causing your problems , are you feeling ill because the side effects of the drugs or the RA not under control , there is other drugs you can try & maybe talk to a rhummy nurse about your problems

Alendronic Acid shouldn't cause those side effects. I think it is more likely to be Mtx. They say injections are better but maybe it just doesn't suit you.

It could be the mtx, when I was younger I had both the injections and then the tablets both of which made me feel awful. I'd have my injection after school on a Friday and felt sick all weekend. I wasn't given folic acid at the time because I was a teenager. I was put back on mtx last year with the folic acid and haven't had the same problem. However when I needed my right hip replaced I put was put on tramadol as a pain killer. I was really sick with it, I was on it for less than a month and last a lot of weight. Have you considered the cocodamol is a problem?
