Subject: Post-op recovery times!

Some of you will know that a few weeks ago I had surgery on the lower spine. I must say that my recovery seems to be on track, supposedly, but I confess to be getting quietly frustrated Tried walking 400metres down the road yesterday but it was necessary to stop off and grab a coffee on the corner cafe whilst OH bought the lunch bits! The physio seems to be happy. I just wonder if anyone could give me an idea of their recovery times? Everyone is different I know, but... I am keen to sit up properly again and take the car out to help wih things like the supermarket run. Basically to be able to help my hubby who is also suffering from failing eyesight with blood pressure at the limit! He is now feeling the stress and had to take two days off sick last week and he also risks burning out. Sorry, I am rambling on a bit here, but any comments or words of encouragement would be welcome to give me an idea of what to expect. Thanks!

Hi Veronica, forgive me if I've got this wrong but I thought you said it would take six weeks. You need to give your body time to heal so don't rush things. You probably find you can do a bit more every day.

Can't you shop over the internet until you can drive? I do. Also, if you haven't got one already, employ a cleaner short term or someone to help with the garden etc. You don't have to do it yourself or expect your OH to do so. It's quite liberating once you realise that!

Hi yes, but the kine said when leaving the hospital gave the impression that I would be able to drive in 4 weeks and walk long stretches already. That would mean this coming Friday. No way Jose! The kind who sees me at home says that one has to relearn driving. Getting in and out of cars takes a lot of energy, driving too. So she seems to have other ideas. Don't mind me, it's just that I am getting a bit frustrated here and wanted to hear other people's experiences! I have had gardening help for years and more so recently. I love gardening and miss getting my hands dirty! We have a lovely cleaning/ironing lady who is delightful and does a good job. Hubby insists on doing the shop personally, not the internet:( I get as much stuff in as poss. I have become quite a dab hand at buying on the Internet for Xmas gifts etc. . Must watch that VISA card! I suppose that it is not so long that In have been away from the office and I find it hard to settle down quietly, even when in pain. That's where the frustration kicks in, and that and the fact that fewer people visit these days. But, hey, I am getting better and that is great!

Seems you have quite a lot of help already! My experience of post op recovery is that it takes much longer than they tell you it will.
Hope you feel better soon.
