Subject: Pain following Hip Replacement
Hi, I had a left total hip replacement 14 days ago, and am still in a lot of pain. Other people who I have spoken to all say they did not suffer for pain after a few days post op. I have a ceramic on plastic un-cemented replacement. Anyone else experience post op pain, and if so how long did it last for?

I can't remember having much pain post op, although I was still taking pain killers for a while afterwards. Maybe you should contact the hospital. Remember you have had a major operation and it will take time for your body to heal. I had nearly 2 years out of work when I had both of mine done. Now I'm fully healed (its been 6 years) and I lead a normal (as normal as anyone with arthritis can) life. I cycle, x train and teach reception full time. Hopefully you will start to feel better soon.

Hi Ann Don't worry I had pain for ages still do when I stand up or get out of the car and that is 7 months on. The hip itself felt fine it's everywhere else that hurt. I am now going to physio and that has helped a lot but do all the excersises they gave you. I went back to work last month and yes when I'm tired it hurts but as has been said this is major surgery not a savlon and plaster jobby. Keep going.

High it will take time and you will have days when you think you've cracked it and things are on the up and days when you feel(well you know what)but you will get through it. Chin up kid.
