Subject: MTX DOSE
Hi everyone saw a new consultant today i have been on 7.5mg for a year now he said i am to increase to 15mg a week now and see him again in 3 months , it seems to be a big increase to me all at once blood test every 2 weeks and if i have reaction next time i see him he will lower the dose again and add something else with it . the thing is i feel good at the moment and my esr is only 35 now it was 51 he said when or if i go into remission for 2 years i can stop all medication ! i don't think i trust him any help would be appreciated

Hi Lorraine, yes, I agree that it seems a big jump. When I was on it they put it up 2.5mg a time, though have heard of 5mg increases too. Can you ask your rheumy nurse about it. They generally are more sensible than the consultants in my view - well, at least mine is lol!

ho Lorraine all the doctors seem to do things diferent now , some start you on low dose like 7.5mg & increase it 2.5 every few months & others start you on 15mg I am on 25mg now , when they ever increased it they take weekly blood test mostly to check my alt(liver test) with 5mg folic acid 6 days a week you should not have to much problem with the increase but speak to your rummy nurse first
